One thing you'll never see anywhere else in the world is the "Trulli houses"                                                                     They are spread out inland in the countryside, centre Apulia is the only place they exist. A trullo is a unique and ancient little building made of only stones, usually formed by a circular base of thick stone wall, the roof is a cone-shaped cupola pointing to the sky above, on top of which you usually find a pinnacle. Some of them still showing antique symbolic designs on the outside of the cupola, each one configuring different meanings, the doors are mostly low, and have faint-lighted rooms, caused by the small size of the windows and the sunlight has to pass through the thickness of the walls. The renovated ones are naturally insulated, warm in winter and cool in summer, because the rounded walls are very very thick and made of white stones.                                                                                 But if you move in to our red coloured country land, you still find so many Trulli located between Olive trees, just like they were originally, left alone, showing the signs of age, with the drystone that became dark gray.

If you're looking for a different experience then we can together arrange excursions and guide you to our own Country and Trulli itinerary, or give you directions if you prefer.                            It will take you on a special tour that will show you a world apart, where it all seems to be stopped in a time far away, when people didn't really have any thing to build with, but ...rocks, some simple tools and ...their hands.

Many people still lives in them and the capital of Trulli is, Alberobello which is a National Monument and World Heritage.  From our houses you can easily reach this location within 30 minutes drive. A must see for anyone visiting Apulia.                  You will also enjoy the magnificent old Olive trees, you practically see them everywhere, the countryside which most of people compare to Tuscany, the gooood food and the hospitality of the people.

As these were in the past the houses for common people working in the fields, some very old legend says that the real reason people started to build these unique houses using only rocks, was the consequence of an antique law.  Back in the old days some Prince or King living in some Castle, ordered that every family who owned a house in his county had to pay him a tax for it, so people started to build these strange buildings using only rocks with nothing in between, initially they were just rocks one on top the other, another reason why they needed to make them so thick so less wind would pass through, and having also the coned roof made of rocks, the result wasn’t considered a house, so they could avoid the tax.                                                                                                                                       An Italian old proverb says Fatta la legge, trovato l’inganno”  "As the law is done, the deception is found"                                                   Another antique tale says that when a baby was about to be born in the family, the father would build a new cone, a new Trullo, so that was the extra room for the new born. This is the reason you may see today more coned roofs point in the same Trulli building, just counting them you should know how many kids the family had.
